“Paul marvellously leads The Drive with emotional intensity. Most of Liz’s story is told through her strong facial expressions. So much of her feelings are communicated through her eyes and this comes through the screen so powerfully. How Liz reacts to such a tragedy is subtle, but she’s clearly overwhelmed with sadness. But Liz’s maternal instinct lies at the forefront of her decision-making. It kicks in as she shields the girls from trauma. Liz turns off the radio to entrap the news to herself. But she’s desperate to know what’s happening. As a mother Liz chooses kindness over selfishness.”
